How to read this

• One index point compares the median basket price of a year with the price of 2024, which reads 100. The basket is Mexico, Spain, and Türkiye: not a world price.
• A year with official values from fewer than 2 of the 3 basket reporters carries no value; the chart leaves a gap and names the reason. FAOSTAT publishes producer prices about two years later.
• The index is not real time and not an offer price.

Basket

Mexico, Spain, and Türkiye: the only reporters with a value for each year from 2005 to 2024. The basket is a 3-reporter basket, not a world price.

Only official figures (flag A) enter the basket.

Eligible year

A year with official values from 2 or more basket reporters.

Price of a year

The median of the basket values of the year, in US dollars per tonne.

Excluded year

A year with a single basket value stays in the series with the reason “too few reporters” and no index value.

Base

The price of 2024. The base year reads 2024 = 100.

Never used

The FAOSTAT trade dataset uses HS 152190, an aggregate of beeswax, other insect waxes, and spermaceti. The index never uses it.
